Taylor Interviews; November 21, 2008

The Process

I found the process awkward because it was unclear which content should be taped and which was just conversation. Of course it is all valuable so having the camera running the whole time (despite the “unprofessional” feel of the final product) would have been more useful from an information gathering point of view.

The Technology

Our Technology consisted of one camera which did not have great microphone capabilities. Rather than trying to pan around and zoom in and out I think simply setting up one nice shot and using that for the entire interview ould have been less stressful and easier to edit in the end. (Ideally we should have had two camera’s with external microphones – one for a close up and one for a wide shot)

Interview Content

39 technology – Radio was the only memorable technology of the period. Interestingly the school , CTI, broadcast a program for many years using this technology.

39 Christmas – Many of the interviewees were not at school for this Christmas season but a main theme discussed was how if you couldn’t afford to go home at Christmas you were usually invited to a local person’s home.

CTI History

CTI was not a bible school the way we conceptualize the term now. It gave young people the opportunity to continue education past early high school and equip effective lay workers for their churches. The education they received was different entirely in kind from the post secondary education received by students at Taylor today. Interestingly, however, the plight of the penniless student was as true then as it is today.
